Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.  This meme is simple and fun, you just pick up your current read, flip to a random page, and choose 1 or 2 teaser sentences to share!  Here are the guidelines:
  • Grab Your Current Read
  • Open to a random page
  • Pick two “teaser” sentences from that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO SHARE SPOILERS! (make sure what you share doesn’t give too much away.  You don’t want to ruin the book for other readers)
  • INCLUDE the TITLE & AUTHOR too, so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR and wish-lists!  If possible, add the page number.
This week my teaser comes from the very popular Soul Screamers series! I just so happened to hear about this series from blogs that I follow and it made me want to read it and find out what all the hype was about. So I finally picked it up, and I must say, I'm loving it so far. So, because I like it so much, I'm going to share some of it with you guys :)

"But when I look at her, she's... darker than everyone around her. Like she's standing in the shadows of something I can't see. And I know she's going to die."
-Soul Screamers Volume One by Rachel Vincent pg 78
(the link will take you to it's Goodreads page)

Ok, so yeah I cheated and did three sentences, but you get the idea lol Hope you enjoyed my teaser! Send me some links to check out your teaser too :)

In My Mailbox (Black Friday Edition)

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by Kristi from The Story Siren. It is a way to share with other bloggers what you got during the week.

Here's my mailbox!

So I went Black Friday shopping EVERYWHERE and the only things I really returned with were books, considering the fact that MOMMY said she'd get me a tablet (the only thing on my wishlist) for Christmas. So, I had a little money to go and spend and I went to Barnes and Noble and Wal-Mart and bought a little something, something. I bought:

And from my University's library I borrowed:

I would've taken a picture, but my camera on my phone is terrible, and all of these books have BEAUTIFUL covers and I wanted you guys to be able to see them clearly. If you would like to find out more about the book, click on the name and the author directly under the book and it'll take you to the GoodReads page :)

What did you get in your mailbox?

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

*MY THOUGHTS*
Wow, ok I really don't know what to say... Besides the fact that I'm disappointed. I was expecting much more out of this book. I waited forever to buy it because I was on the fence due to all the mixed reviews, but then I went ahead and said to h*ll with it and this was my reactions to different parts of the story: BEGINNING- Ok, I like the Greek mythology mix in. MIDDLE- ZZZZZzzzzzz. (I even started reading another book in the middle of it... Which was a bad idea because it was Mara Dyer... It was wayyy better than this...) Anyways, the END- Geez, I'm not finished yet?!
I have to admit though, I kinda did like the ending, but I couldn't really enjoy it because I was too busy thinking about the middle and just trying to get to the last page. It took entirely too long to "get good".... I understand you're shooting for a series, but Gah lee lol And because I felt like the story was being drug out, the explanation of everything was taking too long as well. It was like the same things were happening over and over. (Ex: Helen and Lucas fight, Helen trains, Helen eats heartily).
But there was some things I liked about the book. The powers Helen had and the necklace was cool. Maybe I was just spoiled about the way Greek mythology should be mixed in a story from Rick Riordan and his Percy Jackson series... (And yes I KNOW  they're for two different age groups...)
Lastly, I want to talk about Helen. Sooo I'm not sure if its just me, but I felt like she was a little spineless. She was willing to let herself be vulnerable to her attacker because she couldn't be around a boy... Maybe that had to do with the Fates, but it kind of got to the point where I was wondering if she had ANY kind of backbone. Now to Claire... She annoyed the crap out of me. How do you magically know everything that's been going on already but never said anything. Best friend, kid, or not, they would've freaked out. I guarantee someone would've had some kind of questions. Maybe I'm being too realistic about this fictional situation, but Angelini could've at least made her a little more believable...
But enough of my ranting... due to my love for Greek mythology, I was able to finish the book.
Overall, I give this ** (2 out of 5)

Waiting on Wednesday #1

Although I've had this blog for awhile, I've just decided I wanted to start doing this meme, so here we are... Especially since there's so many new releases coming out that I cannot wait for! So, the main one I'm waiting on is:

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences? This is life for sons and daughters of fallen angels in Sweet Evil. Anna, a tender-hearted southern girl, was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage, and her will-power is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna. A cross-country trip forces Anna and Kai to face the reality that hope and love are not options for their kind. When it's time for Anna to confront her demons, will she choose to embrace her halo or her horns?

First of all, the cover looks so intense and I love the red of her dress. Buuut I think the guy in the cover looks a little cheesy lol But the premise of the story sounds good. It's publishing date is May 1st, 2012! Check it out on Goodreads here :)

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Hardcover, 452 pages
Published September 27, 2011

Mara Dyer #1
Source: Own

Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong.

*MY THOUGHTS*
Ok, I know this is NOT what the blog says I’m currently reading, but I JUST got my copy of this book and once I started reading it, I just couldn’t stop… Oh man, this book was A M A Z I N G!!! I was expecting something completely different than what I got, and in this day, it was an absolutely wonderful thing. What first made me want to read this was the cover. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Its so mysterious, I just had to know what was going on inside the book. Then as I started reading, from the very beginning I was enveloped in Mara’s world. With every chapter that I finished, I was pulled more into her world, trying to figure out everything that was going on in her strange life. There’s so much I want to say about this book, but I don’t want to say too much for fear that I’ll start ranting about the book  give out spoilers (which I HATE doing).

One thing I loved about the book was the paranormal power that Mara possessed. It was refreshing to have something different than what the usual is (vampires, zombies, werewolves, and things like that…). That was mainly what kept me rooted to the book. I wanted to find out as much about her power as I could. I loved her power. I found myself wishing I could do what she could but using it responsibly of course lol
The other thing that kept me coming back for more in Mara’s world was none other than the incredibly hot, foreign, smart, cocky a**hole of Noah Shaw. OMG I loved him. I don’t know what it is about me, but I always fall for guys like him. I think it was his attitude and all his secrets that kept me wanting to know more, but whatever the reason, I loved him. Too bad he was MADE for Mara…. (You know what I mean if you read it. If not, that’s one thing to look forward to.)
Towards the end though, Mara did kind of get annoying to me. I felt like she kept feeling sorry for herself. I was thinking to myself, figure out what it is and try to control it! (Yes I was actually screaming this at the book smh) I don’t like to be around CHRONICALLY DEPRESSED people… And that’s what she felt like to me. I was too close to the end to stop though.
Lastly, WTF KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?! Omg talk about a cliff hanger!!!  Ugh I hate them, but this was really the only way you could end a book like this…. Let me just say… Michelle Hodkin, you’re a literary genius.
So if you can make a review out of that.... You're amazing as well. I didn't think I'd be able to pull it off. i had so many things I wanted to say, I didn't think I'd be able to put them into words.

 Overall, I give this ***** (5 out of 5)
