I picked Top books that feature diversity!
*These are in no particular order!
After all the backlash, I decided to pick some books that have some diversity in it! This can range from character's ethnicity, to the characters being LGBTQ, or even if they are disabled. Here are some I have read and loved!
1. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han: This book features a family that is half Korean. Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: I actually found out a Korean dish that sounded really good! I want to try it one day!
2. Great by Sara Benincasa: I LOVE The Great Gatsby and this retelling is almost spot on! Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: It features an LGBTQ relationship in a telling of one of my favorite classics.
3. Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan: This was my first book by Levithan and I have to admit, I wondered why it took me so long to read this... Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: It features multiple LGBTQ relationships and a really cute YA love poem!
4. How My Summer Went Up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski: This story was super funny and I loved every second of it! Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: The main character and her family are hispanic. They really embrace their heritage. You can tell by what they say and the things they joke about.
5. The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler: Ok, this is a really great book. And I love the synopsis. Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: It features two families that have a Hispanic heritage. And I really liked them both!
6. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: I loved the love story in this one. And the unsuspecting plot line made it even better! Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: Because Park is part Asain and I loved how amazing he was to Eleanor.
7. My Life After Now by Jessica Verdi: This is a book that all teens should read. It teaches you so much about HIV. Not only does it tell you how to handle it, but it also tells you how to prevent it! Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: It features two dads instead of the traditional mom and dad household.
8. Speechless by Hannah Harrington: I iked how this book taught a valuable lesson. Everything isn't your business. And knowing too much about something can definitely land you in trouble. Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: The huge secret she's harboring is *SPOILER* an LGBTQ relationship.*END SPOILER*
9. Cinder by Marissa Meyer: This entire series is all over the globe and I love that. And the fact that there's cyborgs and hovercrafts makes it even better. Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: Cinder is Asain. Cinder is actually set in New Beijing.
10. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles: This series is basicaly what made me fall in love with contemporary romance. Before reading this I only wanted to read Paranormal Romance, but this one opened my eyes to real life love. Why it made my list of Diverse Favorites: Alex and his brothers are Hispanic. Alex is in a Mexican gang until he meets the one girl that makes him do a 180 degree turn.
