Beyond the Book: Wish You Were Italian by Kristin Rae

This bookish feature is an original by me! I had the epiphany for this the other day when I was writing out my 15 bookish confessions. (See #7) A lot of times I like to go "beyond the book" and do something that will connect me with the book and characters a little more. It will pop up on Mondays! Be on the look out for which books caught my eye and made me go beyond just reading it!

When  I started reading this book, I was not expecting to get lost in Italy like I did! From the places she went to the food she ate I learned so many things about this place! But I have to say, the number one thing I took from this story was the GELATO. I swear Pippa and Darren should've turned INTO gelato. And so I got interested. I'd never had gelato before so I started Googling images of it:

And that was only one of the MANYYYYYYY I found that made my mouth water. So I decided that it was a must to go to Wal-Mart and give it a try. Soooooo, I did. AND OMG WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME TO EAT ALL THE GELATO A LONG TIME AGO?!

I decided to try Breyer's Vanilla Caramel Gelato and let me tell you, greatest idea I've had in a long time. The reason I didn't want to try gelato was the fact that I'd never had it and I'm not a huge fan of trying new things. I thought it would taste like ice cream and I would never know that I was missing anything. But gelato is so much more creamier. And it really does taste different. And this specific one has caramel shavings on top with caramel sauce interlaced through it. It was soooooo good!
The point I'm trying to make is not to go out and buy this stuff. (Although you really should... It's AH-MAZING!) It's to say thank you to Kristin Rae for writing Wish You Were Italian and convincing me to step out of my comfort zone. I never would have tried it if it weren't for Pippa and Darren at the gelato shop sitting together and her taking that first bite that forced her eyes closed. Any book that can take me out of my comfort zone is a winner with me!

Now if you haven't already, go out and buy this book AND some gelato! Trust me, you will NEED it lol

Have you had gelato before?
What book made you get out of your comfort zone?

Have you ever had such a connection with a book that you had to go beyond just reading it?

On the Fence by Kasie West

ARC, 293 pages
Release Date: July 1, 2014
Published by: HarperTeen
For fans of: Contemporary Romance, Sports, Realistic Fiction, Sparkly Covers, YA

     She's a tomboy. He's the boy next door…
Charlie Reynolds can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world. To cope with the stress of her new reality, Charlie takes to spending nights chatting with her neighbor Braden through the fence between their yards. As she grows to depend on their nightly Fence Chats, she realizes she's got a bigger problem than speeding tickets-she's falling for Braden. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.
Fun, original, and endearing, On the Fence is a romantic comedy about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect.

It's official.... Any contemporary romance that Kasie West writes I'm auto-buying it. I'd thought The Distance Between Us was amazing, but she definitely knocked it out of the park with this one! (Pun intended lol)
"'...but you're not a normal girl, so that doesn't count."
pg 105
In this story we meet Charlie, a girl who's grown up with just her brothers and father and they're more than just "rubbed off" on her. She plays tackle football with them, she dresses in basketball shorts and sweat pants, and she is into beating them up on a daily basis. All things that "normal" girls don't do. Her neighbor and best friend is Braden, a guy who's been there her entire life, much like her brothers. Braden and Charlie don't realize how much they really know about each other until they start hanging out next to their fence for late night chats.
"'I was a sporting event type of girl, not a loud music event one. At least that's what I had always thought. But here I was standing in this store, in these clothes, hearing the sound of laughter in the back room, and realizing that maybe there was more to me than I realized."
pg 142
What I loved about this book was the fact that I saw so much of me in Charlie. Now I know I say things like that about a lot of characters, but this one really hit home. She did some of the same things I've done, wore some of the same things I've worn, and felt some of the same feelings I have. When I say I felt like I was reading a story of my childhood, I couldn't be more accurate. Even when her and Braden were being hard headed I was on her side. I knew that feeling of being rejected because of my tomboyish qualities. I knew that it takes a while to get over something like that. Especially since it seems like no one else has noticed you. I also admired her when she realized that there was another side to her. I was happy that she realized that being that other side of herself didn't make her fake, it just made her a little different. She was just finding herself. And that's exactly what teens do. They go through many different experiences to find out who they really are.
"'I'm so glad that's over. It was way harder in real life than in practice.' I laughed. Now that I could relate to."
pg 152
Unfortunately, even though I loved Charlie so much, I didn't really fall for Braden. Don't get me wrong, I did like him, but they didn't really get together until the end so by then it wasn't really any time for swoony times. And we all know how I like my swoony times lol Don't get me wrong, there were some, but not with the certain person I wanted it to be with. Hopefully in the next book (are there more? Please say yes!) we can see a glimpse of Braden and Charlie (or even her brothers, especially Gage) just like we caught Caymen playing around in her shop in this one!
"'It was amazing what happened when you let yourself be open to new things."
pg 288
I've never connected to a character like I have with Charlie. She no doubt made me feel old lol but she also made me realize so much about myself. I realized that I'm still the stubborn, tom-boyish girl that I was a long time ago. I'm so happy that just like her I was able to find someone who loved me for me and not what I pretended to be.
Overall, I give this

No post today....

No not blog domains (although a move from Blogger might not be that bad... lol) , just homes. I'm finally taking the move from Huntsville, Tx to Houston, Tx! I'm super excited because that means more author signings and maybe I'll be able to meet up with some of you other Houston bloggers! Also. there are dozens more library job openings available there, so I'm hoping to find a career job out there too. But I'm excited to see what new opportunites this new place has for me! I will be back tomorrow to let you see all the things I've gotten this week!

P.S. The boyfriend is not very happy with me from moving all my books, so take my advice you guys, when you're moving promise them a beer afterwards. He won't even look at me right now lmaoooo

The 2014 YA Prom!

YA Prom is a chance for you to pick your favorite YA boy/girl, find a dress, and attend prom in the YA world! Oh, and there's going to be a Twitter chat later tonight at8:30PM EST where you can come and talk about who you picked to be your date, what you think YA Prom would be like if we were all together in one room, and answer a bunch of questionsx Alexa Loves Book and Queen Ella Bee Reads have come up with for the occasion!

Who I'm With!:
Prince Maxon Schreave
Prince Maxon Schreave

Why? He's royalty! And I know we would be the talk of the town! Equivalent to having a celebrity go with me! Everyone would be trying to get out autographs!

What I'm Wearing:
A turquoise dress fit for a princess!
Pic taken from Google Images

Why? I can only imagine all the eyes on us and the amount of cameras that would be following. I would HAVE to dress like a princess!

My Shoes:
Pic taken from Google Images

Maybe I did just see this pic and thought these shoes were amazing. But so what. I would love to get these a little lighter to go perfectly with my dress!

Pic taken from Google Images

Maybe not exactly these, but I still would like bracelets and a necklace and  earrings that dangle!

I love the way her hair looks! The curls to the side is fun and flirty!

What we arrive in:
Pic taken from Google Images

We will arrive in a classic Chrysler 300 limo to get there in style. We will also have Aspen and the other guards follow us to the prom to make sure we stay out of trouble.

I would get to hear things like this all night! Yes America would be a little upset, but I could live with that lol

If you're not familiar with Prince Maxon, he is from the Selection series! He is the ruler of Ilea and he is amazing! I would certainly use him for his popularity at prom because I'm pretty sure unless it was with him I wouldn't go. I don't really like large parties unless I have someone that is willing to have fun and actually dance. I'm sure than Maxon would be goofy and want to do it all!

Who did you go to prom with?!
