Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies… After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead.      Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.
When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?
After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I waited to write this review because I legit thought I might be going back to this one. I thought I was stuck in a reading slump and therefore even stuff I knew I would like, I didn't. But unfortunately it didn't happen with this book.
I was all set to read this and was so happy to start reading it that I abandoned my current read to start this one. When it took me 3 days to read the first 100 pages I should've known smething was up then. I normally read 100+ pages a day, so me reading this so slow wasn't at all normal. That normally means I'm always distracted and keep finiding other things to do while I'm reading. In other words, I get bored easily. And I think that's what happened here.
Now before you throw tomatoes at me, there wasn't really anything wrong with the book, it was just a lot slower than it predecessor. By page 28 I was excited for all the action and blood and gore, but then by page 120 there was nothing else happening. I always give myself 100 pages and if it's not catching my attention, I let it go. I decided I would listen to the audio, but then I saw someone else say the audio didn't help the story. With that, I knew I just wasn't a fan anymore,
Even I am a little sad because I LOVED the first one. I was fascinated by the world and the way the magic worked. But this one just seemed too much like a filler. I can imagine the ending was spectacular like Truthwitch's, but I just can't see myself getting through another 300 pages of what I had already experienced.
However, I am sad that I won't be continuing the series, so all spoilers are welcome lol But please, DM me or send me an email. Keep the spoilers quiet people! And as always, just because something wasn't for me, doesn't mean it's not for you! I say give it a try and let me know what you think!
