     A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing.
When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day.
Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.
Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. There are others like her who have been taken . . . and returned. Kyra races to find an explanation and reclaim the life she once had, but what if the life she wants back is not her own?

*MY THOUGHTS*

What makes you believe we're the only ones that have been smart enough to establish life on our planet? Especially assuming that "aliens" are more advanced than us. In this unique novel, Kimberly Derting raises those questions and more.
"my mischievous side kicked in. So you're saying it's boring?' This time the wait was a little longer, and just when I thought maybe my teasing hadn't translated over text message and he wasn't going to answer, my phone buzzed again. 'I'm saying I want to share one of my favorite things in the world with you Kyra.."

In the beginning Kyra is woken up behind a dumpster with no recollection of how she got there. The last thing she remembers is a fight with her dad. And then, nothing. But then as she talks to her loved ones, she finds out some very disturbing facts.
"Besides on top of everything else, Tyler was just Austin's little brother. Too young to be anything more than a friend."

When I found out this book was about aliens I was super intrigued. I was expecting them to be on the space ship and tons of other things. But that wasn't what I got. In fact I got the opposite. They basically had no idea what was going on. And in Part One, it's pretty obvious. It just seemed like nothing was really happening because she was still trying to figure everything out. I kind of found it boring. But oh man, once Part Two started, I was blown away. Everything was starting to make sense. I guarantee you, if the entire book had been like that, I would've given it 10 stars.
"The tongue pierces deeper than the spear."

As for the romance, let's be honest. It wasn't a romance, it was insta-love. And being even more honest still, it was a little creepy.... I mean the dude used to be your ex-boyfriend's younger brother. Meaning he was younger than you as well. I even tried to look at it that way too, but I just couldn't get over it. It really seemed weird. But as the story went on, it was obvious that there was a reason why she did what she did.
"According to those "abducted" for lack of a better word, or witnesses there were always lots of them. Swarms of them."

And that ending?! Gah I need book two NOW. Like I'm 100% certain I'll have grabby hands soon as it's available. (Which probably won't be until next year :/) I wish I could tell you more, but there isn't much to tell without exposing too much. (Pun intended...) But I will say that this story is the perfect set up for what is sure to be an amazing roller coaster ride in the end.
"Love required sacrifice and doing things that were bigger than just you. It wasn't something you asked for, or could control or change. It was something you accepted. Love was a force of nature."

The Taking raises so many questions that so many people have had for years. Although some things were a bit sketchy, I do believe that this series will be super cool once it's all finished.
Overall, I give this
