All the world's a stage . . . but what happens behind the curtain is pure magic—literally!
Jory and the rest of the Backstagers have one goal this semester: to put on the best show their town’s ever seen. But best laid plans aren’t easy to achieve when there’s an entire magical world that lives beyond the curtain! When one of the actors suddenly goes missing, the Backstagers must band together to save their comrade and maintain the natural balance of . . . theater.
James Tynion IV (Detective Comics, The Woods) and artist Rian Sygh (Munchkin, Stolen Forest) explore what it means to be an outcast looking to find one’s place in an earnest story of friendship and self-expression.
*MY THOUGHTS*
I originally wasn't going to review this graphic novel, but then I remembered how inclusive this one was and I knew it was something that needed a bit more light! This super fun paranormal graphic novel is definitely something that should be more talked about.
We're back with the BackStagers and they are off on another adventure behind the stage! This time there's an evil ghost that's been trapping them in the back with an everyday object. As they uncover the secrets, they figure out that there is so much more going on than they originally thought.
The reason this caught my eye was the MC is Black. There aren't many graphic novels that I've read with a Black lead, so of course I added this series to my TBR. This one was better than the first for me. There is also more inclusiveness in this one that I won't mention so there's no spoilers. It is REALLY CUTE tho.
I also wanted to talk about the art. Just like in the first one, I LOVED it. There's this way that Rian Sygh has with his drawing and the way he chooses color and its so amazing. I'm not a huge fan of this cover, but the inside art is amazing. I liked it so much I read it through and then went back and looked through the art to make sure I didn't miss anything.
The art and the storyline set this apart from so many other graphic novels I've read. I think this series needs to be talked about more! So much so, I added it to my list for Tournment of Books for my job and they actually picked it! It's one of the two graphic novels they chose for teens all over the county to read about and answer questions about! I hope they love this paranormal adventure as much as I did!
Overall, I give this
